Using the Effects Panel, the transparency of the graphic is modified so that the image can still be visible through the graphic.<br \/>\n<!--more-->1. <a href=\"https:\/\/drexel0-my.sharepoint.com\/:i:\/g\/personal\/nac352_drexel_edu\/Ec_H4xKAmfdGg7M5e5IUNZEBQMZ9ietXB6j7Kdn2oScooA?e=aBc307\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Download and open this image<\/strong><\/a> in Photoshop. The image, as it exists now, uses a full range of color and will have a hard time blending well with the graphic in InDesign. To rectify this, we will use a <strong>Gradient Map<\/strong> to make a more monochromatic version of the image. Gradient Map replaces the range of tonal values in the image with a range of color as defined by a gradient. The default selection of gradients is not very useful for our purposes. To add more options go to the WINDOW menu &gt; GRADIENTS to open the gradients panel. At the drop down menu (top right) choose &#8220;Legacy Gradients&#8221; When you now use gradient map you will see a &#8220;legacy gradients&#8221; folder in the down arrow list. Click on that and the photographic toning presets are there. Next, go to the <strong>Adjustment Layer Icon<\/strong> at the bottom of the Layers Panel and select Gradient Map.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2060\" src=\"http:\/\/nickcassway.com\/designblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/TO01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"301\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"http:\/\/nickcassway.com\/designblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/TO01.jpg 479w, http:\/\/nickcassway.com\/designblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/TO01-244x300.jpg 244w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 301px) 100vw, 301px\" \/><br \/>\n2.\u00a0 Click on the <strong>Gradient Thumbnail<\/strong> in the Properties Panel and then scroll all the way down to the bottom to find the LEGACY GRADIENTS and then Photographic Toning group. These gradients provide gradations that go from dark to light in various tints and temperatures, select the one named <em>Copper 1<\/em>.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2061\" src=\"http:\/\/nickcassway.com\/designblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/TO02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1078\" height=\"615\" srcset=\"http:\/\/nickcassway.com\/designblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/TO02.jpg 1078w, http:\/\/nickcassway.com\/designblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/TO02-300x171.jpg 300w, http:\/\/nickcassway.com\/designblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/TO02-768x438.jpg 768w, http:\/\/nickcassway.com\/designblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/TO02-1024x584.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1078px) 100vw, 1078px\" \/><br \/>\n3. Before clicking OK, we will <strong>modify the Gradient<\/strong> so that we ensure the brightest tones aren&#8217;t completely white, this will help the text graphic stand out in InDesign, slide the <strong>4th gradient stop<\/strong> from the left over to the right to the <strong>90%<\/strong> location. Go to the FILE menu &gt; PLACE and select Fashion Portrait.PSD. This converts the text to vectors.<br \/>\n12. <strong>Scale the text graphic<\/strong> to the full height of the margins, make sure to <strong>hold the shift key down and drag from a corner<\/strong> to ensure the graphic stays in proportion.
