An Illustrator “Hippie” Daisy

Print
There are many simple ways to make flowers in Illustrator. Here’s one way to make a “hippie” daisy. I swear my mom had these on the back of her station wagon back in the 70’s.
1. Select the Polygon tool and click on the screen. Make a 5 sided shape with a 2″ radius.

2. Select the Convert Anchor Point tool (associated with the pen tool) or type SHIFT + C, and change all of the corners of the polygon to curves. Drag the points in a counter-clockwise rotation, drag the handles as if you are working around the outside of a circle.

3. Go to OBJECT menu > PATH submenu > ADD ANCHOR POINTS. This will add an extra point in between the existing points.

4. Click on the Direct Selection Tool (White Arrow) and select one of the new points (remember, a solid blue point is SELECTED – if the entire shape moves, deselect it by clicking on a blank part of the screen and re select just the point)
Drag this point towards the center of the shape. Skip the next point and then select the next one after that, drag it towards the center.

Do this until you have dragged five curves points towards the center.

6. With the White Arrow still selected, reshape the outer curves of the flower to give them more volume. Use your discretion to make the shape you want.

7. When you are finished, choose the Ellipse Tool and add a circle to the center.

8. Give it some color and you are done.
